Ideation & Form

This piece tells the story of a summer day at the beach. The temples of the glasses symbolize the freedom and joy that summer brings, while the frame represent the inevitable end of summer and the return to the monotony of daily work.

PHASE 02

Engineering & Scale

Technical orthographic views were generated in SolidWorks to establish precise dimensions for the 1:2 scale prototype.

PHASE 03

Prototype Process

FDM 3D printed iterations, identifying and fixing thin temple failure points, final assembly.

The first step I took was 3D printing the slot where the lenses would fit. This allowed me to verify that my measurements were accurate and ensured a proper fit for the lenses in the final design.

While creating my prototypes, I gained a clearer understanding of the dimensions my glasses needed. This process also allowed me to identify and address issues, such as widening certain parts of the temples that were too thin and broke during printing. Through prototyping, I was able to confirm that the final dimensions of my glasses were correct and practical for production.

Final Execution

The final prototype showcases the contrast between the rigid, professional frames and the fluid, beach-inspired temples.
